Southwest Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued the following announcement on Feb. 29.

Bear Awareness and Electric Fencing Workshops

Attend one of these FREE workshops and learn how to

protect people, property and bears in your community:

TUESDAY, MARCH 17

Led by experts from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, each workshop features:

■ An introductory segment on bear awareness, including managing bear attractants

■ A demonstration and discussion of bear-resistant electric fencing, including how Defenders of Wildlife can help you pay for it

■ Q&A time

■ Refreshments
