With conditions continuing to moderate and fire staff demobilizing from wildfires, the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center downgraded the statewide Preparedness Level to 1 (#PL1), the lowest level, at 6 p.m. today (Aug. 11, 2022). The National Preparedness Level is 3 on a scale from 1 to 5.
The last firefighting personnel demobilized from the #ParadiseComplex of seven fires burning in central Alaska today (Aug. 11, 2022), leaving only two staffed wildfires in the state – the #GooseFire near Chalkyitsik in northeastern Alaska and the #ClearFire near Anderson.
As of Aug. 10, 2022, 571 fires burned 3.08 million acres statewide. Of those fires, 264 were deemed human caused, 274 are considered lightning caused and 33 have an undetermined cause of ignition. There are still 150 active fires in Alaska, but that number continues to increase as fire managers call fires out.
Alaska still tops the nation in the number of acres burned from wildfires so far this year.
