The State is developing a new Local Use Lumber program to make it easier to use Alaska wood in Alaskan homes! Under the program, small sawmill operators would independently inspect their product to confirm it meets the necessary specifications for construction, saving cost-prohibitive membership fees for grading agencies and accessing a larger market for the rough-cut dimensional lumber that they produce. Seven other states also have Local Use Lumber laws or regulations.
Mill operators, home builders, house inspectors, the home financing industry, and municipal code enforcement officers are invited to meet with the @Division of Forestry and Fire Protection from 10am to 12pm tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 23).
