We are extremely disheartened by the news yesterday of Secretary Deb Haaland's decision to revoke the approved land swap in the 40-year fight to connect King Cove to Cold Bay via a gravel, one-lane road. Secretary Haaland visited King Cove in April last year, where she heard firsthand accounts detailing the critical need and urgency for the road. This news effectively puts the residents of King Cove back at square one and their lives remain at risk while the political jockeying continues.
