2023 Alaska Wildfire Outlook | Rawpixel
From March 15, 2023 post.
The early season wildfire outlook is available and the full report is online at www.akfireinfo.com. For the second year in a row, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta has been identified as an area of above normal wildfire potential in April-May. This is due to the below normal snowpack as much of this winter's precipitation in the #YKDelta "has come in the form of rain instead of snow."
Although most of the state is still blanketed by an abundance of snow, it's never too early to start thinking about #2023AlaskaFireSeason and getting #ReadyForWildfires.
Last year, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region was snow free early in the year and experienced drought like conditions that contributed to two early-season large fires – the #KwethlukFire near Kwethluk and the #EastForkFire near St. Mary's.
